On May 11th, 2017, Whatever The Impulse was re-launched with a new cover!
For anyone who didn't notice the old, or for anyone who wants to know what prompted this change, here is the explanation...
It probably comes down to "a series of unfortunate events". My wonderful cover artist, through Caliburn Press, initially produced a cover (which was take-one) that we both quickly established did not represent the book accurately, so I offered up an "80's pop-star" photo that was used, but became so altered to represent the main character's psychological break, that it ended up looking more like a person who had turned into a monster than a pop or rock star having a psychological break. I loved the crack and blur so much--as the concept was perfect--I figured it would be understood and okay, but it didn't occur to me that the only thing everyone else could see was perhaps a zombie, from left to right.
Eventually, feedback from the public made it clear; people did not see Whatever The Impulse as a psychological thriller, people saw it as a horror. Even prior to the realization, I was finding myself prefacing every reading or conversation at book fairs with "I know it looks like a horror but it really isn't"...to a multitude of of nods....
So, enter new cover.... This time, the same cover artist nailed it and I couldn't be happier. No more horror novel, no more zombie...a psychological thriller all the way!
For those who read it, in spite of or because of the old cover, reviews on Amazon.ca, Amazon.com, Amazon.uk, Goodreads and Indigo.ca have been wonderful--and on May 11th, Whatever The Impulse hit #3 Best Seller in the Mystery/Thriller/Suspense - Psychological Suspense category on Amazon.ca and #67 of all Fiction & Literature.
